Brenda Wesley

Brenda Gertrude Wesley passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 19, 2026, at the age of 79.

She was born in New York City to Arthur and Virginia Robinson and was the older sister of Paula and Elyse. Despite her New York roots, she always considered herself a Philadelphian. She attended Philadelphia High School for Girls and later graduated from Temple University. Her love of the Spanish language and Latin culture eventually led her to meet the love of her life, Carlos Wesley, a Panamanian whom she married in 1969.

Brenda began her career as a teacher in Philadelphia. After the family moved to New Jersey, she worked for Nabisco for a number of years. A later move to Virginia brought her to the Loudoun County Area Agency on Aging, where she worked as an activities coordinator. Eventually, she returned to one of her first loves—teaching—and continued in education until retiring from John R. Lewis High School in 2010.

Throughout her life, Brenda was happiest when she was part of a community. Whether she was teaching young people, working with the elderly, or participating in field service with her congregation, she enjoyed connecting with people and being of service to others. 

Brenda also had a tremendous sweet tooth, which made her years at Nabisco particularly well suited to her—she loved their cookies almost as much as she loved to dance. Put on Otis Redding, Sam Cooke or Gladys Knight and Brenda was ready to cut up the dance floor. Those who knew her will remember the energy and joy she brought with her when the music started. 

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Carlos, and her sister Elyse.She is survived by her sister, Paula; her three children, Anna, Bey, and Ben; and her two grandchildren, Eva and Jack. Brenda will be remembered for her love of family, her commitment to her community, and a life spent teaching, serving, and connecting with others.

Her memorial service will be held September 26, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 48055 Sugarland Run Dr., Sterling, VA 20164.
