b. February 10, 1937

Gettysburg

Donald John Hertzog, 86, of Gettysburg, PA., passed away at SpiriTrust Lutheran on October 31, 2023. He was the loving husband of the late Sally Hertzog. Born February 10, 1937, in Gallitzin Township in Pennsylvania, he was the devoted son of the late James and Amy Lucas Hertzog.

Donald graduated from Black Lick Township High School in 1956 and was a 1960 graduate of Geisinger Hospital School as an x-ray technician and worked at Gettysburg Hospital in that capacity. After leaving the hospital, he worked and retired from Schindler Elevators. In his spare time, he loved golf, hunting, fishing, bingo, and gardening. He was a member of American Legion Post 202 in Gettysburg and the Fairfield AMVETS.

He is survived by his children; David J. Hertzog and wife Lisa, and Marc P. Hertzog and wife Melody. Grandchildren; Amanda Pittman and husband Mike, Heather Sauers and husband Nathaniel, Elizabeth Taughinbaugh and husband Tyrel, Tyler Hertzog and wife Rachel, Zachary Hertzog and wife Marina, and Phillip Hertzog. Great-grandchildren; Oliver and Lucy Sauers, Carson, Scarlett, Jace, and Paxton Taughinbaugh, Lainey, Isabel, and Luke Hertzog, and Charlotte and Nora Pittman. Sister; Virginia (Toots) Vizi. And friend, Miriam Wolfe and grand-dog, Max. In addition to wife, Sally, and parents he was predeceased in death by; daughter, Laurie Hess. And brothers; James (Doc) Hertzog and wife Janet, and George Hertzog and wife Emily.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 8th from 4-6 pm at the American Legion Post 202, 528 E. Middle Street, Gettysburg, PA. Arrangements are by Brandenburg & Stein Funeral Parlor, 3045 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg.
