Dr. Jay David Bayer, D.O., age 82, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, always hated Mondays and refused to live through one more by passing away peacefully on April 20th, 2026. He was born on July 8th, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Jay and Lorena Bayer. He graduated from Delsea Regional High School in New Jersey, did undergraduate studies at Lebanon Valley College, and earned a DO degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). He is survived by his cherished and beloved wife Julia; children Janice, Jackie, and Jason; grandchildren Ethan, Andrew, Victor, and Charley; son-in-law Jon; daughter-in-law Nicole; best friend Gershon; and cat Asiago.
It is difficult to summarize "Ironman" Jay's incredible life in just a few lines because he accomplished so much in his lifetime. In his early years, he was a practical joker, a bit of a rebel, brilliant banjo player, talented oil painter, and skilled ER doctor. When he became a father, he imparted precious wisdom onto his children, such as "tomatoes may be a fruit but they don't go in fruit salad" and "don't trust a fart in khaki pants". As a family physician, his generosity was endless and he treated everyone who walked through his office door with respect and dignity. He remained dedicated to providing quality healthcare at Kmart prices (his words not ours) to all until the day he died.
In his later years, Jay collected everything under the sun and would gladly share the object's long and complicated backstory with anyone who would listen. He spent countless hours in his workshop crafting jewelry from old silverware, and in his garage teaching spectacular tricks to his feline side-kick, Honey Badger. Jay was also an amazing "PawPaw" to his four grandchildren, and never failed to make each Christmas magical for them. He was most happy with a grandchild on his knee staring into the shimmering lights of his finely crafted Christmas village.
Regardless of when you knew Jay, he will always be remembered for his signature look of a wide-brimmed hat, "Mama Don't Allow" banjo sessions, knee-slapping jokes, life-long dedication to his medical practice, and unwavering love for his family. Although we all mourn the loss of Jay, we are comforted by this quote from his favorite author Mark Twain: "The fear and death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time." Living a full and vibrant life is exactly what Jay did and we are honored to have known this amazing man. As a final farewell, please rest easy knowing that you will never be forgotten, because you are truly a one-of-a-kind individual that ever walked this earth.
Since there will not be a formal funeral service per his request, if you would like to see Jay's remains to pay your respects, please contact the family to schedule a visit. Also, please feel free to leave below any comments, memories, or photos of Jay that you may have. The family would appreciate them very much.
