Needmore

Eric "Rick" Ricardo Barnhart, 70, of Needmore, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family under hospice care. Born December 18, 1955 in Berkeley Springs, WV, Rick was the son of the late James E. and Gwendolyn G. (Hann) Barnhart. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Barnhart, Roger "Bean" A. Barnhart, James "Tink" R. Barnhart; and two sisters, Donna Barnhart and Patricia A. Dodson.

Rick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah Lynn Barnhart; his daughters, Nicole Unger of Hancock, Amy Lynch and husband Stephen of Hagerstown, Holly Fatkin and husband Royce of Needmore; two sons/grandsons, Deaken Barnhart and Durke Barnhart at home. He also leaves behind a sister, Norma L. Moats; a brother, Hobert "Punk" Q. Barnhart; grandchildren, Eden, Evangalina, Dylan, Asher, Zachary; and a great-grandchild Hazel.

Rick was a 1974 graduate of Southern Fulton High School. He worked as a lieutenant at Roxbury Correctional Institution in Sharpsburg, MD, where he retired after 30 years. Rick attended Crossroads Church in Martinsburg, WV. Guided by his faith in God, he lived a life rooted in strong values and a deep love for his family. He was a man who loved life in the country, especially his home in Fulton County. He found peace in the outdoors; mowing, gardening and hunting. What began as time spent hunting with his brothers became a cherished tradition he later shared with his grandson. Rick had a way of putting people at ease, often greeting others with his familiar, “How you doin’, buddy?” and making everyone feel seen and welcome wherever he went. He believed in treating people right, always putting others first and was known for his respectfulness, generosity and willingness to lend a hand.

He carried a strong work ethic throughout his life and was a hardworking, dependable man who took pride in being a provider. His family meant everything to him, and his greatest joy was simply being at home spending time with those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and quiet strength that will live on in all who loved him. Rather than mourning in formality, we invite all who loved him to gather with us as he would have wanted—outdoors, together, sharing food, memories and celebrating the life of a man who loved deeply and welcomed everyone to his table.

A celebration of life led by Pastor Derick Amsler will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Kirkwood Park in Hancock, Maryland.
