Helen Paul Branum

b. August 28, 1925

Gettysburg

Helen Paul Branum, 99, died Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Genesis Healthcare in Gettysburg.

Born August 28, 1925, in Long Beach, California, she was the 2nd of five children to Herbert and Maggie Bell (Suber) Paul.

She lived in Shreveport, Louisiana when she met William Stacy Branum, a WW2 Bomber Pilot and former P.O.W. (of a German prison camp); marriage followed.

She attended nursing school shortly after the war and worked in doctor’s offices until her children were born. She then became a housewife.

Helen was a member of Redeemer’s United Church of Christ in Littlestown, where she made friends that she cherished.

She loved gardening, reading, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers; a sister; and her husband Stacy, who died July 12, 1982.

Helen is survived by two sons, William Jay Branum and his wife Rachel of Columbia, SC, Tom J. Branum and his wife Brenda of Littlestown; daughter, Susie Paul of Herber City, Utah; five grandchildren, Kim Boyarski of Locust Grove, VA, Stacy Branum of Seattle, WA, Ethan Branum of Boston, MA, Seth Branum of London, England, Jodi Bunty of Littlestown; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Helen lived a simple and humble life. She was warm and friendly, caring, and extremely polite and unpretentious. She cherished her friendship with owners of Smokehouse Crafts, Sally and Jerry Allinger of Gettysburg, the Yingling family from her church, and all her Redeemers friends.

Our hearts are now strained – but Helen lived a long and full life. We will miss her terribly, but her spirit lives on in the log cabin that she called home for 31 years.

Inurnment will be beside her loving husband in Arlington National Cemetery.
