It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Ray Mooney, 72, of Gettysburg on December 14, 2025. John was born in Shippensburg on May 6, 1953, to the late Floyd and Hazel Mooney. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Donna; children: Valerie, Aaron (Sol) and Sarah (Brian); grandchildren: Willow, Abigail, Juniper, and Benjamin; siblings, Jane (Phil) , Floyd (Shirley), Mary, Nancy, Walter (Ruth), Bruce (Gretchen), Bonnie, and Connie (Terry), as well as numerous friends, family and honorary grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Ronald, Barbara, and Betty.
John had a long and respected career in construction equipment for Ingersoll-Rand and Volvo as a Product Manager, salesman and trainer, traveling around the world. John could often be found tinkering around the garage or backyard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and getting lost in the woods, writing, researching ancestry, playing with his grandchildren, and creating things. The annual fly-fishing trip was a highlight of each year. He was a fan of bad action movies and terrible tv. We often teased him about his enjoyment of Ancient Aliens. He loved going to the flea market, Corvettes, and his Harley motorcycles. John also known as Pappy will be remembered for his love, warmth, hard work, goofy humor, stories and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.
