Susan Ann Connor Miett

b. May 27, 1936

Gettysburg

We are sad to announce that our mother, Susan Ann Connor Miett passed away peacefully at her home in Gettysburg on November 27, 2023. She was born May 27, 1936, in Syracuse, New York, and grew up there, in Baltimore, MD, and in Detroit, MI. As a young woman, she traveled throughout the US and abroad and skied with friends in Michigan and Europe. She settled in northern California in the late 60s, where she married our father Paul Miett, who died in 1992.

Susan worked at Syracuse University for 18 years, and while she was there obtained a bachelor's degree in 1987 and a Master of Library Science in 1990. Susan was a voracious reader and loved her books. She had many interests including old movies, antiques, and crossword puzzles. She was an avid fan of Rudolph Valentino and enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially Syracuse University basketball. Here in Gettysburg, she joined the walking club, played Mahjong at the YMCA, and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Susan was a lifelong learner - after making costumes for her kids, she developed a passion for sewing and made costumes for theater productions and started upholstering furniture. She was smart, funny, and a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her children Anne Cherry (Mike), Catherine (Katie) Poteat (Chris), and John Miett (Kenny Carter), her in-laws Mary Gill, John Miett, and Nancy Miett, her grandchildren Samantha, Jacob, Grace, Graham, and Bryan and her six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Walter and Dorothy Connor, and her brother Walter Connor Junior.

A Mass will be held at the historic Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 25 W. High Street, Gettysburg, PA, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 11 am.
